Kela warns public about scam messages impersonating institution in Finland

Kela, the Finnish social insurance institution, is warning the public about scam messages supposedly sent in its name. The latest type of scam requests payment for an overdue invoice on Omakanta, the online service for accessing personal health records. The message threatens debt collection if the payment is not made.

In a statement, Kela explained that these messages direct customers to fraudulent websites where criminals seek to harvest bank credentials and personal information. The institution emphasizes that Omakanta never sends invoices to private individuals and that users cannot view invoices through the Omakanta platform at all.

Additionally, Kela assures that it does not request personal information via email or text messages. If anyone has clicked on the link and entered their banking credentials, Kela urges them to contact their bank immediately.
