Negotiations continue over collective agreement for nursing homes in Iceland

Negotiations continue regarding the collective agreement for nursing homes in Iceland. A meeting between the Efling Trade Union and the Association of Welfare Service Companies, facilitated by the state mediator, is ongoing. Progress has been made today, with both parties drawing closer to a possible agreement.

The central demand from Efling’s negotiating committee is to address staffing shortages in nursing homes. Approximately 2,300 Efling members work in care roles within these facilities, and their collective agreements have been expired since spring.

Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, the chairperson of Efling, has indicated that they will call for a strike if a resolution is not achieved in the ongoing negotiations.
