Kainuu Border Guard uncovers border violations in Suomussalmi

Wednesday 2nd 2024 on 14:19 in
Finland

In September, the Kainuu Border Guard uncovered two minor border violations in Suomussalmi. Additionally, during hunting regulation checks, two suspected hunting offenses were identified. Movement and residence within the border zone are always subject to permission, and unauthorized presence is punishable by law.

Throughout September, the Kainuu Border Guard participated in four security operations in sparsely populated areas and two first response tasks. These operations included searching for missing persons and other rescue missions. The border situation remained stable in Kainuu and Koillismaa during September, with no significant changes in border security conditions.

The border crossing points monitored by the Kainuu Border Guard in Kuusamo and Vartius are currently closed, following a decision made by the government on April 4, 2024. Notably, no travelers crossed through these checkpoints in September, a stark contrast to September 2019, when there were 36,262 travelers.
