Vance and Walz clash over Iran and immigration in heated U.S. Vice Presidential debate

The debate between U.S. Vice Presidential candidates J.D. Vance and Tim Walz commenced with a handshake before both took their places behind podiums. Walz’s first question focused on whether he would support an attack on Iran to prevent its nuclear weapon development.

“Trump created uncertainty among America’s allies regarding Iran. Trump represents chaos,” Walz, the Democratic candidate, responded. Vance countered, stating, “You are concerned about a chaotic world? The world needs a strong leader. Iran is closer than ever to having nuclear weapons, and it’s your party member, Kamala Harris, who has allowed that to happen.”

Immigration was a prominent topic during the debate, revealing divisions within American politics. At a pub in New York, many young Republicans expressed their support for Vance. “Vance has full control of the debate and he’s putting Walz in his place,” said Lucas Fedrico. Vance emphasized the need to stop illegal immigration and deport undocumented migrants, claiming effective legislation was sabotaged by Trump for political gain.

Vance faced scrutiny over prior statements linking illegal immigrants from Haiti to animal consumption in Ohio. “The Republican governor of Ohio says this isn’t true and asks you to stop saying it,” Walz replied. Vance, refraining from revisiting the claim, mentioned how migrants can apply for asylum through an app.

With the election approaching, this debate may be the last before the November 5th voting, as no further presidential debates are planned, although CNN has invited Harris and Trump for a meeting on October 23. Harris has RSVP’d, but Trump has not confirmed his participation.
