The Quality and Supervision Agency for Welfare has stated that other municipalities can learn from the evaluation of child protection services in Borgarbyggð. Following complaints about the services, the agency conducted a comprehensive investigation which lasted over a year. The review revealed significant shortcomings, including a lack of clear procedures, insufficient staff guidance, inadequate case documentation, and poor communication and collaboration with involved parties.

Herdís Gunnarsdóttir, the agency’s director, emphasized that the collaboration with Borgarbyggð has been constructive, noting that changes were initiated early in the process. “Our aim is always to collaborate effectively with municipalities to enhance their internal oversight and improve service quality,” she said.

The results of the evaluation serve as a significant learning opportunity and provide valuable guidelines for other municipalities to assess their own child protection services and identify areas for improvement.
