In 2027, there will be no funds from the national treasury allocated to the tunnel company Eystur- og Sandoyartunlar. This information is detailed in the proposed budget for 2025.

The subsidy amounted to 54 million Danish kroner in 2022, dropped to 47.2 million last year, and is projected to be 28.6 million this year, despite an allocation of 40 million kroner.

The decrease is primarily due to traffic in the Sandoy Tunnel exceeding expectations, according to the government’s assessment.

Next year’s subsidy is estimated at 12 million kroner, with projections for 2026 set at five million. After that, the subsidy is expected to cease entirely.

The government maintains the subsidy only for the minimum traffic in the tunnel, as stipulated in the company’s financial planning and agreements with the lenders.
