The Ministry of Infrastructure has announced a press conference to present the findings of two working groups. One group focused on the feasibility of building an airport in Hvassahraun, while the other examined public transportation options between the capital region and Keflavik International Airport.

The conference is set to begin shortly at 11 AM, where Minister of Infrastructure, Svandís Svavarsdóttir, will open the proceedings. Eyjólfur Árni Rafnsson, the chairman of the working group studying the airport project, will then present the group’s conclusions. Daði Baldur Ottósson, the project manager responsible for assessing public transport between the capital and the airport, will follow with his insights. The event will conclude with remarks from Svandís and Einar Þorsteinsson, the mayor.

This discussion is particularly significant amid ongoing debates about transportation infrastructure in Iceland, as improving access to the international airport is crucial for tourism and local economy. Public transportation enhancements are anticipated to ease travel challenges for residents and visitors alike.

As the situation develops and more details emerge from the conference, stakeholders from various sectors will likely be keenly monitoring the outcomes to evaluate the potential impact on future transportation projects in Iceland.
