A young British man has achieved a remarkable feat by completing a running circuit around Iceland in just over half a month. His goal was to raise funds for children in the UK suffering from cancer.

Sebastian Key embarked on his journey on September 14, starting at Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik. He covered a total distance of approximately 1,320 kilometers in just over sixteen days, averaging between 70 to 80 kilometers daily. Accompanied by a support team, including medical personnel, he completed his run today at Skólavörðuholt in Reykjavik.

“This is the hardest thing I have ever done. Many days it felt impossible, like there was no end in sight. We ran just under 80 kilometers daily, and Iceland’s weather and terrain posed significant challenges. Finishing this is truly a significant accomplishment,” Sebastian shared.

Throughout the journey, Sebastian faced various hardships. “I sustained a serious injury on the second day, and every day since has felt like a week. It was essentially a battle, but I had an amazing team with me. So much could have gone wrong, but they kept me focused. It was incredible,” he said.

Sebastian chose Iceland for the challenge its natural landscape presents. The run’s purpose was deeply personal, as his sister was diagnosed with a brain tumor during childhood, and he works with cancer charities in the UK. “These children are incredible, enduring treatment and facing each day with courage and smiles. Every day of this challenge, we got up with the mindset: if they can rise and never give up, so can we,” he remarked.
