The situation is developing.

“This is tragically sad. There’s significant cleanup and substantial costs involved. It’s just disheartening that someone can’t distinguish between what is mine and yours,” says Per Gran, the principal of Sørumsand High School.

Gran was on a hare hunt with poor cell reception on Monday morning when he received a message from a colleague.

“I know that some unauthorized individuals have broken in. They smashed the door to the IT office and took over 100 loaner laptops and some mobile phones.”

The thief broke down the door to the IT department at Sørumsand High School to access the equipment.

According to police, they received a report of the break-in at about 8 AM on Monday. The perpetrator made off with 120 laptops and 10 to 15 mobile phones, with the theft occurring over the weekend.

Operative leader Finn Håvard Aas from the Øst Police District noted that there was also vandalism done to various doors inside the school. Although the school lacks surveillance cameras, it does have an alarm system that was not triggered over the weekend.

Gran explained that there will be consequences for the school, stating, “We need to purchase new laptops, which incurs a significant cost and takes time to arrange. There’s also cleanup involving door and glass replacements.”

Fortunately, students are on fall break this week, so the impact on their schooling will be minimal.

Currently, no suspects have been identified, but the police are urging anyone with tips to come forward. If the thief happens to read this article, Principal Gran has a message: “Please return it. But I doubt those who steal will consider returning anything. It’s just sad, the whole situation.”
