The most sought-after educational program in Sweden is the medical program at the Karolinska Institute, followed by the economics program at the Stockholm School of Economics. The law programs at Lund, Stockholm, and Gothenburg come next.

This preference isn’t exactly surprising and could be attributed to tradition or the attractiveness of these professions. Factors like status and economic prospects could also play a part, but there could be many reasons, according to Robin Johansson.

A new trend is the increasing number of students seeking programs that lead to professional qualifications. The programs for occupational therapists and physiotherapists have seen the largest increases. These professions have good prospects in the job market moving forward, Johansson says.

Most sought-after programs as first choice:
1. Medical program, Karolinska Institute
2. Economics program, Stockholm School of Economics
3. Law program, Lund University
4. Law program, Stockholm University
5. Law program, Gothenburg University

Professional programs that have increased in popularity are:
1. Occupational therapist (+25%)
2. Physiotherapist (+12%)
3. Civil engineer (+9%)
4. University engineer (+8%)
5. Nurse (+8%)
