A group of children from Grindvík, a town in Iceland, is reuniting for summer camp at Úlfljótsvatn, after expressing how much they missed each other. The children are excited to enjoy their time together at the camp, which is a result of a collaboration between the Scouts and the Red Cross. The opportunity is offered at no cost to the children from Grindvík.

A meeting held in March with the children’s representative revealed that they wanted more opportunities to meet and spend time together. As a result, numerous measures were taken to bring them together, including this summer camp. Apart from the camp, an outdoor education course and a hiking trip around Fimmvörðuháls have been organised.

The children expect a difficult farewell at the end of the summer camp, considering they will all be heading in different directions – to new schools, sports clubs, and environments. “It’s just so good to meet all the Grindvíkings,” says Ronja Sif Smáradóttir.

The summer camp is part of a larger initiative to provide opportunities for children from Grindvík to reconnect and spend quality time together. It aims to foster a sense of community among the children and provide them with memorable and enriching experiences. The camp offers a range of activities that promote outdoor education, teamwork, and personal growth. It also serves as a platform for the children to share their experiences and support each other as they navigate their transitions to new schools and environments.
