Unemployment rises by over 30,000 in Finland as job vacancies decline

In August, the number of unemployed job seekers in Finland increased by 30,100 compared to the same time last year, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. By the end of August, there were a total of 279,600 unemployed job seekers. This data is presented in the ministry’s Employment Overview.

During August, there were 54,300 job vacancies available, which is a decrease of 60,100 from the previous year. The number of employed individuals aged 15 to 74 fell by 46,000 compared to last year, as reported by Statistics Finland. Additionally, the number of unemployed individuals in the same age group rose by 22,000 year-on-year.

The employment statistics from the Ministry are sourced from the client registers of Employment and Economic Development Offices (TE offices) and municipal experiments, while Statistics Finland’s labor force survey is based on sampling data.
