The Rescue Academy located in Kuopio, North Savonia, is set to receive additional funding for the enrollment of new students. In the budget proposal announced by the government on Monday, €900,000 has been allocated to increase the number of rescue training positions. With this increase, the academy will be able to accept 240 new rescue students annually. This year, the program admitted 192 students into its rescue qualification training in Kuopio.

The government aims to expand the number of available positions to address the shortage of rescuers in Finland. There is a particular deficit of skilled rescuers in rural areas. It is estimated that nearly 2,500 new rescue positions will open nationwide in the coming years.

The Rescue Academy is a state institution that trains professionals for emergency services and rescue operations throughout Finland. Additionally, rescuers are trained at a city-owned rescue school in Helsinki.
