Ukrainian refugees in the Faroe Islands are set to receive an additional year of stay, allowing them to remain until March 17, 2026.

A proposal to extend the current legislation regarding temporary residency permits is now under review. Originally enacted on April 8, 2022, the law was initially valid until March 17, 2023. It was later extended to March 17, 2024, and now the intention is to further prolong it to 2026.

This extension underscores the ongoing commitment of the Faroe Islands to support those displaced by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The proposal is currently open for public consultation, reflecting the local government’s response to the evolving needs of the refugee population.
