A large crowd gathered in the center of Tórshavn today for the unveiling of a statue of Andrea Árting, which took place in Steinatún.

The statue was created by artist Edvard Fuglø and features a distinctive silhouette.

Andrea Árting was a remarkable woman known for her significant contributions. In 1937, she became the chairwoman of the Tórshavn Women’s Labor Association, just one year after its establishment.

Árting was a leading figure in the women’s rights movement, advocating for equal pay for equal work. She dedicated all 40 years of her leadership to this cause, successfully negotiating for equal wages in 1977, shortly before stepping down.
