Sweden

The campaign is organized by the non-profit organization Keep Sweden Tidy, which reports that 131,082 participants took part on Saturday. Cleanup efforts occurred across various locations in the country, from Ammarnäs in Norrbotten to Malmö in Skåne.

“Littering is perceived as a massive problem. This is a way to raise awareness about the issue and engage people,” said Johanna Ragnartz, CEO of Keep Sweden Tidy.

Does it really make a difference? “Above all, we show others how easy it is. It’s part of our work to change norms and behaviors,” added Ragnartz.

The campaign coincides with World Cleanup Day, a global initiative launched in 2018. Last year, 198 countries participated in the event.
