The ski slopes above Oppdal’s town center currently remain bare, with grass, stones, and dirt visible as the ski lifts sit idle. However, discussions about the ski center are already underway in the village, as the longtime owner has sold the facility to Alpinco for an undisclosed sum. Mayor Elisabeth Hals believes this change marks a significant turning point for Oppdal, emphasizing its potential impact.

Unlike Hafjell and Kvitfjell, already owned by Alpinco, Oppdal ski center has vast areas above the tree line, offering ample opportunities for off-piste skiing. Alpinco’s CEO, Odd Stensrud, views the acquisition as a chance to enhance offerings for ski enthusiasts, aiming to attract not just visitors from central Norway but also international guests in the future. To compete with Alpine resorts, Stensrud highlights the need for easy access to dining and shopping options.

Oppdal stands out as a destination with a charming village at the base of the slopes, a feature that Stensrud believes will appeal to international tourists. The new ownership intends to position Oppdal as a year-round destination, essential for justifying investments in infrastructure and seasonal employment.

Mayor Hals anticipates that Alpinco’s management will push for further development of the ski center, recognizing untapped potential. The local community is eager to welcome more visitors, as even midweek skiing currently sees minimal queues, indicating substantial room for growth. With sunny days revealing vast spaces both on and off the trails, stakeholders are optimistic about Oppdal’s future as a premier ski destination.
