A nine-meter-long motorboat sank rapidly on Friday afternoon off the coast of Porkkala. A nearby sailor managed to rescue two individuals who were aboard the sunken vessel.

The Gulf of Finland Coast Guard’s maritime rescue center received an emergency call reporting that a motorboat was sinking in the Porkkala area. In response, multiple units from the Western Uusimaa Rescue Service and the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard were dispatched to the scene. A maritime rescue helicopter also arrived to assist.

Upon arrival, the Porkkala Coast Guard patrol confirmed that the boat had nearly completely sunk. At that point, both individuals from the motorboat had already been rescued and were brought aboard the responding sailboat. They were subsequently taken to the Porkkala Coast Guard station for evaluation by emergency medical services.

The cause of the sinking is currently under investigation.
