Brynjar Níelsson has clarified that his resignation from the position of deputy parliamentarian is unrelated to his nomination to the board of the Icelandic Human Rights Institute. In an interview, he stated that he decided to withdraw from politics after losing his seat in the last election, although he subsequently engaged in political-related work. Initially, he served as an assistant to Jón Gunnarsson, the Minister of Justice, and later took on assignments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance.

Once those tasks were completed, he felt it was time to pursue other opportunities, noting that serving as a deputy parliamentarian could be restrictive. Brynjar explained that he made his decision about two weeks ago, prior to being approached by people who suggested he take a position on the board of the Human Rights Institute on behalf of the Independence Party. He stated that it remains to be seen how the Althingi will handle the appointment to the board.
