Growing concern over fatigue epidemic in Finland as Yle hosts live discussion

In Finland, there is growing concern over what some are calling a “fatigue epidemic.” A survey conducted by Yle in spring revealed that more than half of Finns have found daily life to be disturbingly exhausting, either continuously or at times over the past year. Discussions have also highlighted “lifestyle fatigue,” a phenomenon stemming from the ongoing adaptations to routines set during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What accounts for this widespread fatigue, and what can be done about it? To explore these questions, Yle is hosting a chat and live stream event this evening, addressing fatigue from multiple perspectives.

The live discussion will feature insights from social media influencer Linda Jakobsson and language expert and author Janne Saarikivi, alongside everyday Finns who have experienced fatigue, as well as psychologist and psychotherapist Miia Metsänen. Respondents to questions in the chat will include leading researcher and occupational health psychologist Sanna Selinheimo from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, and psychologist Meeri Keurulainen from the Päijät-Häme health care district.

The chat and live stream are scheduled for Thursday evening from 8:15 PM to 9:30 PM. Participation requires an Yle account. Join the conversation and share what is causing you to feel fatigued.
