Search efforts continue for missing man in Vík

Illes Benedek Incze, who has been missing since early Monday in Vík í Mýrdal, remains unaccounted for despite ongoing search operations. Rescue teams have scoured the area for over 48 hours, but the search was temporarily halted on Tuesday due to a lack of leads regarding his whereabouts.

The South Iceland Police indicated that search efforts will resume in the coming days, with teams planning to search along the coastline. Police urge anyone with information about Illes’s movements to contact them.

In light of his disappearance, a prayer and reflection service will be held tonight at 9 PM in Vík Church. Led by Minister Jóhanna Magnúsdóttir, this gathering is intended not only to pray for Illes’s safe return but also to address other recent traumas affecting the community. The service will be conducted in both Icelandic and English.

Illes, who resides and works in Vík, is originally from Hungary. The local community is coming together in solidarity, with the service serving as a space for shared grief, reflection, and support. According to a notice from the church, attendees are encouraged to light a prayer candle, listen to music, and engage in conversation.

The search and support efforts highlight the community’s commitment to finding Illes and maintaining unity during these challenging times.
