For 60 years, the men’s clothing store Hjá Kissa has been a staple in the heart of Tórsgøta in Tórshavn, selling a variety of garments including jackets, ties, underwear, belts, gloves, shirts, and other attire.

Birgir Carlsson, who has been with the shop since the year 2000, reflects on the store’s commitment to quality, stating, “We sell products we can stand behind; quality goods, and we are right in the heart of Tórshavn. That, I believe, is how we’ve made it to 60 years.”

Looking back over the decades, certain fashion trends stand out in Carlsson’s memory. “One of the first popular items in the store was the so-called Beatles jackets, which at the time cost around 350-400 krónur. Since then, we’ve also offered blazers with double vents and fitted trousers,” he recalls.

On September 14, the store celebrated its 60th anniversary, marking the day when Jens Christian Hansen, affectionately known as Kissa, first opened its doors. Since 2000, Carlsson, Kissa’s grandson, has been integral to the shop, which he now owns.

In a recent morning broadcast, Birgir Carlsson discussed various topics including men’s fashion, retail business, and evolving trends, underscoring the store’s enduring legacy in the fashion industry.
