A significant event took place yesterday at the Bakkaborg preschool in Breiðholt with the inauguration of ramp number 1300, part of the “Ramps Up Iceland” initiative promoted by Haraldur Þorleifsson. The project aims to have 1,500 ramps in operation across the country by March next year. Franek, a five-year-old student at Bakkaborg who uses a wheelchair, officially opened the ramp, surrounded by classmates and other guests.

“This is a very big day for us, especially for our Franek, who started here at just six months old. He has seen an increasing number of assistive devices over the years, and recently received his wheelchair, which allows him to access the building almost independently,” said Ágústa Amalía Friðriksdóttir, the preschool’s principal.

The ramp is designed to improve accessibility, enabling children with mobility challenges to navigate their environment more easily. The initiative seeks to enhance inclusive opportunities for all children across Icelandic schools and facilities.
