Thursday 19th 2024 on 09:29 in
Faroe Islands

Today, Sirið Stenberg, the Minister of the Interior, will present a report on the Language Council for the Parliament.

A working group has conducted a reassessment of the Language Council, tasked with determining whether the legislation governing the council is functioning as intended.

Additionally, the group was instructed to explore the possibility of establishing regulations for the Language Council, the Place Name Committee, and the Name Committee under the same law.

A previous assessment report was drafted in 2016; however, it was never presented or submitted to Parliament.

Collaboration with the Place Name Committee and Name Committee

The working group, appointed in May of last year, was able to gather relevant information from these committees as necessary.

The group’s mandate included eight points, one of which was to describe how collaboration is conducted with the Place Name Committee and the Name Committee.

The first oral questions on this matter are scheduled for today’s parliamentary session.

The parliament meeting is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
