The dismantling of the Trombi roller coaster, which has been part of Särkänniemi amusement park for nearly 20 years, will begin next Monday and is expected to last around ten days. According to Särkänniemi, the ride’s journey has come to an end, making way for new attractions.

In 2026, a new ride will rise to nearly 30 meters in height, enhancing Särkänniemi’s appeal, as stated by Ville Aarresuo, the park’s business and development director.

Sustainability is a key focus in the dismantling process. The Finnish company Kuusakoski Oy is responsible for recycling the materials. They will transport the components to Turku, where Trombi will be broken down for recycling into the steel industry. The recycled material may be used in various applications, including bridges and roofing sheets for new buildings.

Tuomas Haikka, Kuusakoski’s sustainability director, emphasized that using recycled steel significantly reduces energy consumption and the need for mining raw materials. Trombi contains approximately 220 tons of steel, representing a substantial environmental impact.

After the dismantling, the vacant area of the park will host a spooky themed event called the “Chilling Carnival.”
