An extensive drug smuggling case uncovered at the port of Naantali has moved to the indictment stage. In June, customs officials discovered a 15-kilogram shipment of cocaine hidden in a false compartment of a car that had traveled from Sweden to Naantali. The vehicle had originally departed from Denmark. According to customs, the cocaine was intended for distribution in the greater Helsinki area. The seized amount could have provided approximately 150,000 doses for personal use, with a street value exceeding two million euros.

Kimmo Kaunisto, the head of the investigation at customs, stated via email to Yle that the preliminary investigation has been completed and an individual is suspected of serious drug offenses. The case was referred for indictment at the end of August. Previously, customs reported the arrest of a Romanian citizen in connection with the crime. Investigators have collaborated with Danish police since the suspect resides in Denmark.
