A court in Central Finland has sentenced a man and woman to seven years in prison for multiple serious drug offenses. Jarno Petteri Turku, born in 1981, received a sentence of seven years and two months for over ten counts of aggravated drug offenses and one drug-related offense. Tiina Johanna Turku, born in 1996, was given a seven-year prison sentence for the same crimes.

The couple was found in possession of nearly 14,000 Subutex tablets and four kilograms of marijuana. Additionally, they obtained over 600 Rivotril tablets for distribution and had approximately 30 Xanax tablets in their possession. They denied most of the charges.

The Turkus were ordered to compensate the state approximately €110,000, reflecting the financial gain from their crimes. They procured the drugs multiple times from the same individual, traveling to areas including the capital region, Jämsä, and Jyväskylä for distribution. Transactions were arranged via the Telegram messaging app, with drugs sometimes delivered directly to their home in Jämsä. The offenses occurred between August 2023 and March 2024, with the police tracking the suspects as part of an investigation into other crimes.

In a related case, a man born in 1992 was sentenced to two years and six months for aiding and abetting four aggravated drug offenses and committing two aggravated drug offenses himself. He denied the charges as well. Additionally, a man born in 2003 received a sentence of one year and six months of probation for a drug-related offense, aggravated drug offense, drunk driving, and severe traffic safety violations, which he also denied.

The sentences have not yet become final, as the Turkus, the 1992-born man, and the prosecutor have all expressed dissatisfaction with the rulings.
