Nearly seven million Icelandic krónas have been raised for a memorial fund in honor of Bryndís Klara Birgisdóttir through a candle sale and contributions from various retail chains. Anna Björt Sigurðardóttir, who initiated the fundraising campaign, encouraged people to light candles in their homes last Friday during Bryndís Klara’s funeral. Retailers such as Krónan, Bónus, Nettó, and Hagkaup participated by selling outdoor candles in stores nationwide.

A total of 6,862,725 krónas was collected, which will go into the memorial fund managed by KPMG. The fund aims to support projects focused on protecting children from violence and fostering a community based on empathy and collaboration, as stated in the announcement.

Anna Björt expressed her gratitude to everyone involved, noting that Icelanders have once again demonstrated that with compassion and kindness toward one another, anything is possible.
