Women close wage gap in Denmark as August figures show significant growth

Women are gradually closing the wage gap with men, according to new statistics.

In August, women received 407.4 million Danish kroner in wages, an increase of 34.3 million kroner, or 9.2 percent, compared to August of the previous year.

Men earned 624.5 million kroner in August, which is an increase of 20 million kroner, or 3.4 percent, from the same month last year, according to figures from the Statistics Office.

In total, over one billion kroner was paid in A-taxed wages in August, reflecting an increase of 54.6 million kroner, or six percent, from August 2022.

The data indicates that wage growth began to surge when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020.

However, the trend reversed in the second half of 2021, leading to a relatively steady increase in wages since then.

In recent years, the rise in wages for women has been more consistent.

In contrast, male wage trends were more significantly affected during the pandemic, as noted by the Statistics Office.
