The Minister of Infrastructure, Svandís Svavarsdóttir, emphasizes the urgent need to find a new location for helicopter operations from Reykjavik Airport. The number of helicopter flights has significantly increased in recent years.

This information was shared on the government’s website, where Svandís recently met with representatives from local residents’ association Hljóðmarkar. Their goal is to reduce unnecessary air traffic around Reykjavik Airport, particularly from helicopters, private planes, and jets.

Svandís stated that her ministry has already begun exploring options to mitigate the impact of flight operations on the surrounding community. This effort will involve collaboration with Isavia, the airport’s operating entity, as well as consultations with residents and relevant stakeholders. Svandís noted that targeted actions are necessary to decrease the excessive and intolerable noise coming from the airport.
