The East Iceland Police have concluded the autopsy, but they are still awaiting important forensic results related to the deaths of an elderly couple found deceased in their home in Neskaupstaður at the end of August. The police stated that it is not yet appropriate to disclose the cause of death as they are still waiting for critical data and the results of the forensic investigation.

A male suspect, who was detained shortly after the report was made, remains in custody under suspicion of being involved in the case. It has not yet been confirmed whether a weapon was used at the scene.

Kristján Ólafur Guðnason, chief of police for East Iceland, indicated that while the autopsy has been completed, they are still pending key evidence, including the forensic examination results from outside parties. Nonetheless, the investigation is progressing well, and the scene work has been concluded, assisted by the technical department of the Reykjavik Metropolitan Police.

Updates on related local matters include potential strikes involving over 120 employees from the Hornafjörður municipality, reactions to recent political developments, and community events where youth will take the stage tonight. The situation continues to evolve as authorities gather more information.
