The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a ten-year-old girl found deceased in a lava field near Krýsuvik. The girl’s father, who is currently in custody under suspicion of murder, has not been interrogated since Sunday evening.

Law enforcement is focusing on clarifying the events leading up to the alleged crime. A senior police officer mentioned that although significant progress has been made in the investigation, there have been no notable developments since yesterday. The father of the girl has not provided any additional statements during his detention, except for his initial report directing police to the location of his daughter’s body, found in the lava field opposite Vatnsskarð quarry, north of Kleifarvatn.

The police have not yet determined whether the father caused the girl’s death at the scene or elsewhere. They stated that it is too early to disclose definitive information regarding the circumstances of her death, although they have some theories they aim to explore further.

The girl was in her father’s custody, and he is a 44-year-old Icelandic man with a history of drug-related offenses but no record of violence. He was ordered to remain in custody until the following Tuesday. The man’s attorney confirmed that they did not contest the detention request, although a formal appeal period to the Landsréttur court will expire on Thursday afternoon.

The investigation into this tragic incident continues as authorities gather more information.
