The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a ten-year-old girl, discovered in lava near Krýsuvíkurveg. The girl’s father, who is in custody on suspicion of her murder, has not been questioned since Sunday evening. Authorities are focusing on the events leading to the incident.

Police chief Grímur Grímsson stated that while substantial work has been done, there have been no significant developments since yesterday. The father of the girl has been in custody since his arrest, and he did not contest the request for detention. He reportedly had not provided much information during previous questioning.

The father, a 44-year-old Icelandic man with a past related to drug offenses but no history of violence, was supposed to be caring for his daughter on the day she died. He directed the police to the location where her body was found, specifically in the lava field opposite Vatnsskarðsnámu on Sveifluhálsi, north of Kleifarvatn.

Grímsson noted that it remains unclear whether the father caused his daughter’s death at the site or elsewhere. The investigation is ongoing to determine the actual event location, and while certain theories exist, no conclusions can yet be drawn.

The police are gathering information regarding any unusual behavior in the father-daughter relationship, but so far, they do not believe there were any concerning signs. The father has been ordered to remain in custody until next Tuesday while the investigation continues.
