In May, a nonprofit organization known as Näthatsgranskaren, which claims to be politically and religiously neutral, filed a police report against Richard Jomshof from the Sweden Democrats (SD). The report concerns two images shared by Jomshof on X, prompting an upcoming interrogation with a prosecutor where he faces allegations of incitement against a group. Jomshof disclosed this information last Friday and announced he would temporarily step back from his role as chair of the Justice Committee.

One of the images depicts a Muslim family setting fire to a house labeled “Europe,” while the other shows a jihadist warrior asking to be rescued from the sea, subsequently pushing other passengers from a boat marked “England” with an oar inscribed “Rape Jihad.” Näthatsgranskaren argues that Jomshof’s characterization of the images as satire is misleading and constitutes incitement against a group. They claim the illustrations unfairly target Muslim refugees, suggesting they promote hostility and depict all Muslim refugees as unreliable and violent.

Mattias Karlsson, a prominent figure in the Sweden Democrats, also shared the images in support of Jomshof and has reportedly been reported to the police as well. In a social media post, he expressed that freedom of expression is worth defending, emphasizing the need for sacrifice in the name of that defense. Joakim Zander, a prosecutor, stated that the interrogation will proceed, after which he will take time to consider the next steps regarding the case.
