Shooting incident escalates in Vantaa as police reveal suspect and victim were acquainted

The police have released additional details regarding the shooting incident that occurred in Vantaa’s Pähkinärinne area on Thursday. As the investigation progresses, it has been revealed that the victim and the suspect were previously acquainted, with the victim being specifically targeted by the suspect.

During the interrogation and detention hearing, the suspect admitted to firing multiple shots at the victim. “The suspect acted with a high level of determination, and the situation escalated quite rapidly. The entire event lasted less than a minute. It is truly remarkable that the victim survived the shooting at all,” stated Chief Investigator, Crime Commissioner Rauno Jämsä, in a press release.

Police suspect that the shooting took place inside a business premises within the Pähkinärinne shopping center. The suspect was apprehended on Monday afternoon on probable cause for attempted homicide. Authorities previously reported that a 50-year-old man of foreign descent sustained injuries in the shooting. The alleged shooter is also of foreign descent and is described as being in his thirties.
