Løgting to review Ombudsman’s annual report addressing four issues in Tórshavn

Tuesday 17th 2024 on 09:49 in
Faroe Islands

Last year, the Løgting, the parliament of the Faroe Islands, received four notifications from the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman is responsible for alerting the parliament about serious mistakes, deficiencies, and violations in laws, regulations, or administrative decisions.

Today, the Løgting will review the Ombudsman’s annual report for 2023. The parliamentary chairmanship has proposed a motion to approve the report.

The four issues raised last year pertain to defects in the special education law, changes to zoning regulations, handling of building permit applications, and the management of a request for information from the media, along with details about complaints related to that matter.

Additionally, three other issues are on the agenda for today’s session. The People’s Party is presenting two proposals: one concerning the extension of rights in the fishing industry and the other aimed at annual adjustments to the national tax scale. Jacob Vestergaard has put forth a proposal for stricter penalties for drug driving.

The parliamentary session is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.
