Earthquake strikes near Hofsós, Iceland, causing mild tremors

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake occurred just north of Hofsós at approximately 6:11 PM this evening. While seismic activity is relatively common in the Tröllaskagi region, earthquakes are infrequent in the western part of this peninsula.

According to a statement from the Icelandic Meteorological Office, the tremor was noticeable in nearby populated areas. No aftershocks have been recorded.

This earthquake follows a similar-sized event that was detected further north in Flókadal in April of last year. The seismic activity in Tröllaskagi has historically been varied, but the western section remains less active in terms of earthquake occurrences.

Currently, there are no additional reports of damage or injuries related to this earthquake.
