Automated Sale store in Tampere to close after one year of operation

Monday 16th 2024 on 11:10 in
Finland

The automated Sale store in downtown Tampere will cease operations at the end of September. This self-service store was opened just a year ago as part of a pilot project aimed at exploring the future of self-service retail and new technologies. Primarily operating without staff, the store was accessible 24 hours a day and was the first of its kind in Finland.

According to the S Group, there has not been an automated store in Finland offering such a wide variety of services before. The company stated that the main advantage of the automated store was the ability for customers to shop quickly at any time, including during the night.

This pilot program will assist the S Group in evaluating how automated stores can complement service offerings in the future, particularly in areas where traditional retail may not be economically viable.
