Man airlifted to hospital after experiencing chest pain during reindeer hunting trip in East Iceland
A man experiencing chest pain while on a reindeer hunting trip in East Iceland was airlifted to a hospital in Neskaupsstaður early this morning. The individual, accompanied by three companions, called for assistance from Sandvík, located between Eskifjörður and Norðfjörður.
Rescue teams faced significant challenges accessing the location, which is characterized by steep terrain and does not permit vehicle entry. Due to the difficult conditions, it was decided to summon a helicopter rather than transport the man on a stretcher over a long distance.
The helicopter arrived approximately twenty minutes after being dispatched, around 3 AM. Following the successful airlift, rescue personnel and the man’s companions began their return journey, with operations concluding shortly before 6 AM.
This incident highlights the potential dangers associated with outdoor activities in rugged terrains, where timely access to emergency services can be hindered by natural obstacles.
