Rescue teams were dispatched in the early hours to assist a hunter in Sandvík, East Fjords, who experienced chest pains while hunting reindeer with three companions. The Gerpir, Brimrún, and Ársól rescue teams received the call around midnight due to the remote location of Sandvík, which is accessible only on foot or by boat, situated between Vöðlavík and Viðfjörður, near Eskifjörður and Neskaupstað.

As the situation required immediate action, a helicopter from the Coast Guard was also called in to facilitate the rescue. The terrain in Sandvík is steep, and local authorities decided that a helicopter was the safest option to transport the man, who was unable to walk further due to his condition.

Daði Benediktsson, the head of Gerpir rescue team, highlighted the challenging conditions in the area that necessitated air support. The injured hunter was subsequently taken to the hospital in Neskaupstað for further medical evaluation. The incident underscores the risks that outdoor enthusiasts face in remote areas, particularly under adverse weather conditions.
