The Church of Iceland has sold the Bishop’s Residence located at Skólavörðuholt in Reykjavík for 360 million Icelandic króna. The property, situated at Bergstaðastræti 75, spans nearly 490 square meters and was built nearly a century ago. Last year, the Church’s Executive Committee proposed to sell the building upon the appointment of a new bishop, with the proceeds earmarked to establish a reserve fund for the church.

Bergstaðastræti 75 has served as the residence for five bishops over recent decades, accommodating them during their tenure as leaders of the national church. The property was listed for sale at the beginning of August, with a sales agreement finalized last week. According to the Bishop’s Office, a family is set to move into the residence.
