The candidate list for the municipal elections on November 12 in Tórshavn will not include the top candidates from the Social Democratic Party, as reported today by Norðlýsið.

Sources indicate that Tróndur Sigurðsson, Bjørg Dam, and Súna Mørk have withdrawn from the list. All three currently serve on the city council.

The Southern Streymoy Social Democratic Association held a nomination meeting last evening.

Marni Olsen, the chairman of the Southern Streymoy Social Democratic Association, confirmed the meeting and stated, “The list is not fully populated yet, and I have no comments at this time.” Tróndur Sigurðsson declined to comment, while attempts to reach Bjørg Dam and Súna Mørk, who have also opted out, were unsuccessful. There was also no response from the mayor, Heðin Mortensen, or Kristionna Winther Poulsen, both representing the Social Democratic Party in Tórshavn’s city council.

In a related development, Kári Johansen, another city council member from the Social Democratic Party, announced last weekend that he is leaving the party to run with the Progressive Party. In an interview, Johansen highlighted ongoing tensions between himself and Mayor Heðin Mortensen, noting that his own party had often been a challenging partner in governance. He specifically mentioned the contentious issue regarding the location of the National Theatre as a significant sticking point.

Johansen added that the recent news about the withdrawals from the Social Democratic list is new to him, and therefore he has no further comments at this moment.
