Efling Union’s actions regarding the Italian restaurant in Reykjavik are far from over, according to the union’s chairperson. They are addressing alleged unpaid wages from the restaurant’s owners, who have failed to respond to any communications.

Union members, claiming they are owed wages ranging from approximately 100,000 ISK to 1.6 million ISK, staged a protest outside the restaurant recently. The union chairperson noted that there has been no reaction from the owner, Elvar Ingimarsson. “To the best of my knowledge, we have received no responses,” she remarked.

When asked if further actions are planned, the chairperson confirmed that they are likely. “We need to assess the situation and consult with our members who have experienced difficulties. We are ready to continue actions as long as necessary,” she stated.

The situation involves substantial financial claims affecting multiple individuals, some of whom are now in debt to the tax authorities because their deductive income tax has not been reported. The chairperson suggested that tax authorities might take action, as the owner reportedly has outstanding debts to tax authorities as well. However, she refrained from speculating whether such measures would be pursued.

She emphasized that the issue is not resolved and that Efling will continue advocating for its members. “We are just starting our case, and it won’t be concluded without satisfactory results for Efling members who find themselves in these unfortunate circumstances.”
