Pilot whales spotted in Fuglafjørður continue journey southward across Rockall
The group of pilot whales, which were spotted in Fuglafjørður on September 3, are continuing their journey southward and have now crossed south of Rockall.
Initially, the whales traveled along the outer edge of the British continental shelf before moving west between Rosemary and Dohrn banks.
Currently, the whales are heading further south along the inner section of Rockall Bank, maintaining an average speed of approximately 75% of a nautical mile per hour.
Bjarni Mikkelsen, a biologist at the Faroe Marine Research Institute, provided insights on the whales’ journey.
