Sunny weather expected across Iceland before change in conditions

Friday 13th 2024 on 09:23 in
Iceland

The weather across the country is expected to be mostly clear and sunny today, with gentle winds, due to a weak high pressure system in place. Last night was quite cold, with temperatures dropping to as low as -6.8 degrees Celsius in Torfur, Eyjafjörður, and -6.5 degrees Celsius at Þingvellir. However, temperatures will rise in the sun today, ranging from 5 to 12 degrees Celsius, with the warmest conditions found in the southern regions.

As evening approaches, a low-pressure system from the south will begin to affect the weather, leading to increased winds from the east in southern areas and rain is forecasted. The low-pressure system will track northeastward just south of the country tomorrow, resulting in a brisk northeast wind, with gales or even storm conditions expected in the southeast and southern regions until after midday. Rain will spread across much of the country, with sleet anticipated in the interior of the northeast.

On Sunday, a northerly wind is expected, bringing precipitation and cool weather to the North and East, while clearing conditions are likely in the South and West.
