Reykjavik seeks new accommodation for Konukot shelter for homeless women
Reykjavik City is officially seeking new accommodation for Konukot, a shelter for homeless women. The current facility is dilapidated and cannot support the organization’s operations. The non-profit group Rótin manages Konukot under a service agreement with Reykjavik City.
Konukot operates from 5 PM to 10 AM, typically hosting between ten to twelve women, though sometimes more. It has twelve beds, and no woman is turned away; if the number of guests exceeds the available beds, additional accommodations are made on sofas or mats on the floor. The shelter provides a hot evening meal and a light breakfast, and women can wash their clothes and use hygiene facilities on-site.
The city’s advertisement specifies that the new facility should ideally be centrally located, comfortable, and well-maintained. Accessibility is also a critical factor, particularly for people with disabilities. The required space should be at least 350 square meters and must accommodate lodging for a minimum of twelve individuals. Additionally, there must be provisions for two to four staff members and shared communal spaces.
