Starting next year, an additional 2 billion Swedish kronor will be allocated to civil defense in the budget. This means that by 2025, a total of 8.5 billion kronor will be dedicated to civil defense, up from the current 6 billion. The plan is to increase funding each year, aiming for 15 billion kronor annually by 2028, according to Carl-Oskar Bohlin, the Minister for Civil Defense.

Sweden is divided into ten different preparedness sectors, and the government has decided to allocate extra funding to six of them, which include electronic communication, access to clean water, and transportation infrastructure. “These sectors are particularly important for building a fundamental resilience in society in the event of an armed attack on Sweden,” Bohlin stated.

The largest of these sectors will be health, care, and social services, which will receive 2.5 billion kronor annually starting in 2028. This allocation is part of a broader strategy to enhance national security and preparedness in various key areas.
