An ongoing financial crisis at Northvolt has resulted in a series of unpaid bills, particularly concerning fire protection services. One company that supplies sprinkler systems has sought assistance from the Swedish Enforcement Authority over two invoices dated July and September, totaling over 52 million kronor. Another fire safety training provider has submitted a claim for 81,000 kronor.

Northvolt is currently in a precarious economic position and recently announced the closure of parts of its factory in Skellefteå. The company is struggling to increase production and sales, needing new capital while facing difficulties in attracting investment. However, Northvolt has claimed it does not have issues meeting its financial obligations.

Responding to the 121 million kronor in claims against them at the Enforcement Authority, Northvolt emphasized the importance of thoroughly reviewing invoices due to the complex nature of large projects. Matti Kataja, the company’s communications director, stated, “We certainly do not wish for delays, and we work hard to ensure all invoices are accurate.”

While many cases at the Enforcement Authority have been dismissed, 46 claims totaling 60 million kronor remain active, including those related to fire safety services. Among the creditors are various financial firms dealing with leasing, electronics suppliers, as well as the municipality of Skellefteå, which has previously faced payment issues due to errors in its own systems. The municipality has recently issued a new claim of 1.3 million kronor against Northvolt but has not provided further details.
