Three individuals were arrested following a knife attack in downtown Reykjavík last night. The suspected perpetrator is a sixteen-year-old boy.

The police received a report of the incident shortly before 2 AM, and the victim was subsequently taken to the emergency department. His injuries were assessed as minor, and he has since been discharged.

Of the three arrested, two are being held in custody, while the third, a seventeen-year-old who had not returned to the facility after a weekend leave, was sent to a care institution. According to police, the alleged attacker is sixteen years old and has been placed in appropriate care by child protection services.

Police have conducted interviews regarding the case, though it remains unclear if there is any connection between the suspect and the victim. The deputy chief of police in the capital region expressed concern over the rising incidence of such cases in the community.

Additionally, there have been significant calls from the community for educational initiatives to be integrated into schools. The deputy chief emphasized the need for a collaborative effort from parents, law enforcement, schools, and child protection authorities to address this issue effectively. She noted that the situation demands a collective commitment to reverse the concerning trend.

The police are involved in a national initiative led by the government to tackle these matters, with special measures announced by the Prime Minister aimed at enhancing community safety.
