Three individuals were arrested following a knife attack in downtown Reykjavik last night. Two of those detained are minors and are currently awaiting questioning, while the third suspect has been transferred to a juvenile facility after reportedly escaping from there.

The police were alerted to the incident shortly after 2 AM. According to Ásmundur Rúnar Gylfason, assistant chief of police for the capital area, the investigation is progressing well and the circumstances surrounding the case are becoming clearer.

“Three individuals were arrested in connection with the investigation last night; two are with us and awaiting interrogation, while the third has been moved to a juvenile facility and was found to have escaped from there,” Gylfason noted.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment but sustained only minor injuries and has since been discharged. Gylfason emphasized that the victim did not have any known connections to the alleged attackers. The increase in youth carrying weapons has become a significant concern for law enforcement.

“The police take these matters very seriously, and we will do everything we can to prevent similar incidents and to provide information about the cases that arise,” said Gylfason.

This incident raises broader issues about youth violence and weapon possession in Iceland, prompting discussions among authorities about public safety and preventative measures.
